GATS stands for GASOLINE ANALYSIS TEST SEPARATOR

The GATS Jar allows pilots to take multiple fuel samples and safely pour them back into the tank to prevent discarding the fuel on the ground, which is bad for the environment (which is now against EPA regulations). Pouring fuel back into the tank helps to save a bit of money on fuel, which can add up over time. The special separator screen, when coated with avgas, forms a barrier to prevent water and debris from entering the fuel tank when pouring back. The screen will also deflect Jet A if the aircraft has been mis-fueled. (A life-saving feature of the GATS Jar)

The GATS Jar comes with a plastic bag that can be used for storage.
