Sky-Tec Starter 149-NL/EC - Includes Core Charge

The Sky-Tec 149-NL/EC is a 24-volt, super-duty inline starter purpose-built for Lycoming-powered aircraft that need extended cranking capability — think larger-displacement engines, cold-weather operations, or airplanes that just need a little extra staying power on a stubborn start. It's part of Sky-Tec's high-torque NL series, the same lightweight, wound-field starter design that's become one of the most popular starter upgrades in general aviation.

At just 9.4 lbs, the 149-NL/EC is dramatically lighter than the OEM starters it replaces, which can help with weight and balance on nose-heavy installations. It's built with rugged all-metal gears, triple steel ball-bearing races, and a vibration-proof solenoid, and includes Sky-Tec's exclusive Kickback Protection System (KPS) to help protect the starter drive from engine kickback on start. A 6.5:1 gear reduction ratio delivers strong cranking torque even on stubborn cold starts.

This is a direct-fit replacement for a range of OEM and aftermarket starters — including Prestolite MHB-4014(R), MHB-4016(R), and MHB-4018(R), PM Series PM2401(R), and Lycoming part numbers 31B26040 and 31B26554 — and is FAA-PMA eligible across a wide range of Lycoming engines.
